If you are replacing windows or doors in the GTA this year, one provincial rebate is still open. It closes soon, and it has rules that catch people out. This guide covers what is available as of October 28, 2026, what qualifies, and what has ended.
The short answer
- Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program pays $100 per rough opening for ENERGY STAR certified windows, doors, sliding doors and skylights.
- You need a home energy assessment before any work starts, and at least two qualifying upgrades (windows plus something else, such as insulation).
- The final assessment must be booked by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026. No extension has been announced.
- Toronto homeowners can also finance windows and doors through the City's Home Energy Loan Program (HELP), which is open.
- The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan are closed, and so is Enbridge's Home Efficiency Rebate Plus.

Home Renovation Savings Program
Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy run this program with support from the Ontario government. Windows and doors are part of its assessment path, which pays rebates for a bundle of energy upgrades.
What it pays for windows and doors
- $100 per rough opening for each window, door, sliding door or skylight replaced with an ENERGY STAR certified model.
- The rebate is per opening, not per window. If one opening holds three windows, it still counts as one.
- Minimum to qualify: three window openings, or one door, one sliding door or one skylight opening. Replacing one or two windows on their own does not qualify.
- A complete new window with its frame qualifies, including one inserted into the old frame. Replacing only the glass, the sash, or a door slab without a frame does not.
The other rebates in the same bundle
- $600 back for the two home energy assessments, once the program is completed.
- A $500 bonus for completing three qualifying upgrades.
- Other eligible upgrades include attic, wall and basement insulation, air sealing and heat pump water heaters. Each has its own rebate amount on the program website.
How the process works
- Book the first energy assessment with a registered energy advisor. Nothing you install before this visit is eligible.
- Choose at least two upgrades. Windows and doors count as one upgrade, however many openings you replace.
- Install ENERGY STAR certified products. Leave the ENERGY STAR labels on the glass until the final assessment.
- Book and complete the final assessment with the same advisor. It must be completed within 180 days of the first assessment or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first.
- Get paid. The program says rebates arrive within 60 days by cheque or 30 days by Interac e-Transfer after the advisor submits the paperwork.

The deadlines that matter
The program rules say the final assessment must be scheduled by November 30, 2026 and completed by December 31, 2026. If you are starting now, that leaves only a few weeks for the first assessment, product ordering, installation and a second upgrade. Talk to your energy advisor and your installer about lead times before you commit.
The program has been extended before (it was first set to end in November 2025). No extension past 2026 had been announced when this was written. Check homerenovationsavings.ca for the current status.
Toronto: Home Energy Loan Program (HELP)
HELP is a City of Toronto loan, not a rebate, and it is open. It covers energy upgrades that include window and door replacements.
- Amount: up to $125,000, or 10% of the property's current value assessment, whichever is less.
- Rates: fixed, low-interest rates, valid until December 31, 2026: 3.83% for 5 years, 4.43% for 10 years, 4.85% for 15 years and 5.12% for 20 years.
- 20-year term: only available for projects that include new windows, heat pumps, solar or geothermal.
- Who qualifies: detached, semi-detached, row houses and small low-rise homes in Toronto (postal codes starting with M), with the consent of all owners and the mortgage lender.
- Combining: the City says HELP can be combined with provincial, federal and utility rebates.
Details are on the City of Toronto HELP page.
Programs that have closed
- Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan (federal): closed to new applicants.
- Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+): the window and door rebate has ended, with a final deadline of December 31, 2025 for existing participants.
- Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program (federal, for low-to-median-income households): it rolled out in other provinces in 2026 but had not launched in Ontario when this was written.
Planning a window project around the rebate
- Count your openings. You need at least three window openings, or one door, sliding door or skylight, for the windows and doors rebate.
- Ask about ENERGY STAR before you order. Ask your installer to confirm the ENERGY STAR status of each model on your quote.
- Replace the whole unit. Glass-only or sash-only replacements don't qualify. A new window with its own frame does, whether it goes in as a full-frame replacement or an insert.
- Don't start early. Work done before the first energy assessment is not eligible.
Better View is also offering 15% off installation on windows and doors booked by November 30, 2026. Send photos and rough sizes through the window replacement page or call 647-326-0613, and we can tell you whether the timing can still work for the rebate.
